Dear students,
University of Oulu (SF OULU01) is welcoming applications from incoming exchange students for spring term 2026. Please read carefully the How to apply -information as well as our UniOulu fact sheet.
Applicants are welcome to participate in our Study Exchange –webinar on Thursday 25th of September, 2 pm (Finnish time, EEST) via Zoom. We will go through the application process and give a sneak peek at some of the systems we use here at UniOulu. Questions and comments are much appreciated.
Nominations
Before applying for an exchange at the University of Oulu, you need to be nominated by your home university. Consult your home university’s exchange coordinator for nominating you as an exchange student through a link. The nomination link is only given to your home university coordinator either from the faculty international coordinator or international office.
Nomination deadlines:
October 1 for spring term exchanges
Application deadlines:
October 15 for spring term exchanges
Please note, application deadlines are the same for both study and traineeship exchange applications.
Academic calendar for spring 2026:
Spring term 2026: January 5 – May 31, 2026
Official arrival date: January 2, 2026

English Language Certificate
The required English language level for exchange students is B2 in the CEFR scale. This is a compulsory application enclosure for all non-native English speakers. We do not require an official language test document e.g., TOEFL or IELTS, instead a certificate written by the home university’s English teacher is sufficient.
Acceptance information
All acceptance material is sent directly to the student by e-mail starting mid-November.
Student health care services and insurance
Incoming exchange students are not insured by the University of Oulu and therefore it is mandatory for the students to have valid health and accident insurance either by their home universities or with private insurance. In addition to having health and accident insurance, students should also be covered for liability. For advice on the required insurance coverage, please see the Finnish Immigration website.
EU students: European Health Card is mandatory, private insurance highly recommended in case of health problems and/or accidents.
Non-EU students: Mandatory to have a private insurance covering health care and medical expenses.
Transcripts
The University of Oulu issues digital transcripts to exchange students. In case your institution still requires hard copies of the students’ transcripts, please remember to make a separate request for those.
Housing
Our main housing provider is the local student housing foundation PSOAS. PSOAS offers furnished rooms with linen service and wifi connection included in the rent. There are limited number of rooms available, so we recommend that students apply early. More information about housing options is available at: https://www.oulu.fi/en/for-students/incoming-student-exchange -> Housing
